The spiritual values in Seloko Melayu Jambi: A systematic review study from the perspective of prophetic counseling

The advancement of science and technology in the modern era has brought significant changes to human thought and behavior, particularly in moral, spiritual, and social aspects. Amid globalization, local wisdom and spirituality have begun to erode, highlighting the urgency of strengthening cultural values in character education. One cultural heritage that carries deep spiritual meaning is Seloko Melayu Jambi traditional expressions containing advice, proverbs, and life philosophy that reflect the wisdom of the Jambi Malay community. This study aims to explore the spiritual values embodied in Seloko Melayu Jambi and analyze their relevance to the principles of Prophetic Counseling. Employing a qualitative approach through literature study, this research interprets the philosophical meanings within seloko texts and relates them to the three pillars of Prophetic Counseling: tauhid (divinity), insaniyah (humanity), and akhlaqiyah (morality). The findings indicate that values such as honesty, patience, responsibility, justice, and deliberation are strongly reflected in seloko and are aligned with the spirit of Prophetic Counseling. The study concludes that seloko can serve as a cultural and spiritual medium in counseling practice, fostering counseling approaches that are more contextual, religiously grounded, and rooted in local wisdom.
