Amid globalization, local wisdom and spirituality have begun to erode, highlighting the urgency of strengthening cultural values in character education. One cultural heritage that carries deep spiritual meaning is Seloko Melayu Jambi traditional expressions containing advice, proverbs, and life philosophy that reflect the wisdom of the Jambi Malay community. This study aims to explore the spiritual values embodied in Seloko Melayu Jambi and analyze their relevance to the principles of Prophetic Counseling. Employing a qualitative approach through literature study, this research interprets the philosophical meanings within seloko texts and relates them to the three pillars of Prophetic Counseling: tauhid (divinity), insaniyah (humanity), and akhlaqiyah (morality). The findings indicate that values such as honesty, patience, responsibility, justice, and deliberation are strongly reflected in seloko and are aligned with the spirit of Prophetic Counseling. The study concludes that seloko can serve as a cultural and spiritual medium in counseling practice, fostering counseling approaches that are more contextual, religiously grounded, and rooted in local wisdom.</p> 2025-06-05T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Guidance and Counseling: Research and Studies https://journal3.uad.ac.id/index.php/JGCouns/article/view/510 Do boys and girls connect differently? Using a systematic literature review approach guided by the PRISMA 2020 protocol, the study analyzed 6 scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2025 that discuss character education, cultural values, and bullying prevention in Indonesian and international contexts. The findings indicate that the integration of Trisila values aligns with moral and social-emotional learning frameworks in fostering empathy, cooperation, and responsibility among students. The study emphasizes that cultural-based counseling and education programs can reinforce both individual moral reasoning and communal harmony, thus mitigating bullying behavior in boarding schools. The novelty of this research lies in its cultural-philosophical perspective, which bridges local wisdom and contemporary character education models. Practical implications are directed toward school counselors and educators to implement Trisila-based character development programs as preventive and promotive efforts for a safer school climate.</p> 2025-06-08T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Guidance and Counseling: Research and Studies https://journal3.uad.ac.id/index.php/JGCouns/article/view/504 Can Tarsul Kutai inspire culturally responsive counseling practices? 2025-10-15T04:45:51+00:00 Ria Yunita Andriyani riayunitaandriyani@gmail.com Akhmad Fajar Prasetya akh.prasetya@bk.uad.ac.id Agus Ria Kumara agus.kumara@bk.uad.ac.id <p>Tarsul Kutai is a traditional oral literary work of the Kutai people in East Kalimantan that is rich in moral, social, and spiritual values. Data from the National Commission for Child Protection recorded 4,388 cases of violence against children, most involving psychological and social aggression. This alarming figure underscores the urgency for culturally grounded and philosophically responsive counseling approaches. This study aims to analyze the integration of local wisdom values embodied in Duke Ronggolawe within the practice of Peace Bibliocounseling as an effort to strengthen adolescent character. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by PRISMA, the study reviewed 24 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025 discussing folklore-based bibliocounseling and the application of local cultural values in guidance and counseling. The findings reveal that folktales inspired by local wisdom particularly those featuring Duke Ronggolawe effectively internalize values of justice, integrity, empathy, and courage. Folklore-based bibliocounseling improves adolescents’ self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and conflict-resolution skills. Moreover, sociodrama techniques rooted in cultural values help prevent negative behaviors and promote tolerance and peace. Overall, integrating local wisdom within a postmodern counseling framework offers an innovative, transformative, and culturally meaningful approach to adolescent character education.</p> 2025-06-08T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Guidance and Counseling: Research and Studies
